New York: The US stock market will remain open for normal trading on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, according to the official holiday calendar of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq. Despite New Year’s Eve marking the final day of the calendar year, Wall Street will operate a full trading session, with markets opening at 9:30 a.m. ET and closing at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Market participants will, however, see trading halt the following day. The US stock markets are scheduled to be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday, as investors welcome the start of the new calendar year.
The confirmation comes amid heightened year-end activity, as traders and institutional investors typically rebalance portfolios, lock in gains or losses, and adjust positions before the year concludes.
On the previous trading session, Wall Street indices ended in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.51% to close at 48,461.93 points, while the S&P 500 fell 0.35% to 6,905.74 points. The Nasdaq Composite also slipped 0.50%, ending the session at 23,474.35 points, according to market data.

Alongside the year-end trading update, the NYSE has published the official list of US stock market holidays for 2026, outlining full-day closures and early-close sessions for the upcoming year.

In addition, the stock market will observe early closures at 1:00 p.m. ET on select days, including July 2 (ahead of Independence Day), November 27 (the day after Thanksgiving), and December 24 (Christmas Eve).
