The Mumbai Police have given comedian Samay Raina time until March 10 to appear before them regarding the ongoing investigation into Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on the now-deleted YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The controversy has led to multiple FIRs and police inquiries, sparking widespread debate in the digital content space.
The Controversial Remarks and FIRs
Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps on YouTube, found himself in hot water over statements made about parents and sex on Samay Raina’s show. The remarks triggered outrage, leading to at least two FIRs—one in Assam and another in Mumbai—against both Allahbadia and Raina.
Following the backlash, Raina deleted the episode, but the damage was already done. Clips from the show had gone viral, attracting legal scrutiny and public criticism.
Mumbai Police’s Investigation
The Mumbai Police have been actively probing the case, but they have been unable to contact Ranveer Allahbadia, as his phone has been switched off. When police teams from Mumbai and Assam visited his residence, they found it locked.
Meanwhile, Samay Raina’s lawyer approached senior police officials, stating that his client is currently in the United States. On his request, the police granted an extension, allowing him time until March 10 to appear and record his statement.
Ranveer Allahbadia, on the other hand, requested that his statement be recorded at his residence, but the police rejected his request.
Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Cyber Cell Crackdown
The Mumbai Police have already recorded the statements of eight people, including:
• Apoorva Mukhija
• Ashish Chanchlani
• Allahbadia’s manager
These statements were taken in response to a complaint filed by a BJP functionary. However, as of now, the city police have not registered an FIR in this particular case.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has also stepped in, issuing summons to at least 50 individuals involved with the show. Among those who have already recorded their statements is actor and television personality Raghu Ram, who served as a judge on India’s Got Latent.
The Broader Impact on Digital Creators
This controversy highlights the growing legal scrutiny of content creators and podcasters in India. While digital platforms offer creative freedom, they are also subject to laws and regulations. The case of Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina serves as a reminder that content—especially controversial or sensitive topics—can have real-world consequences.
As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the legal process will impact both influencers and the broader digital content industry. Will this case set a precedent for future online content regulation in India? Only time will tell.
