Delhi High Court Warns Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Health Secretary SB Deepak Kumar: Comply or Face Jail Time

In a stern warning to Delhi’s Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Health Secretary SB Deepak Kumar, the Delhi High Court issued a scathing admonishment for their failure to comply with judicial orders regarding the enactment of a law to regulate clinical establishments. The court cautioned that they could face imprisonment if they continue to disregard its directives.

During the proceedings, the court expressed dissatisfaction with the minister and secretary, emphasizing that they are “servants of the government” and cannot harbor “large egos.” The bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora, rebuked Bharadwaj and Kumar for engaging in a game of one-upmanship instead of addressing the pressing issues at hand.

Highlighting the plight of the common man, the court stressed the importance of resolving the matter promptly. It criticized Bharadwaj and Kumar for allowing personal conflicts and factional disputes to overshadow the welfare of the public, particularly concerning the generation of inaccurate lab reports that adversely affect individuals.

The bench issued a clear ultimatum, warning that if the minister and secretary continue to neglect their duties and engage in brinkmanship, they will be held accountable. It stated unequivocally that both officials could face incarceration if their actions continue to harm the common man. The court reiterated that their primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being of the populace, urging them to set aside personal differences and focus on delivering tangible benefits to citizens.

Furthermore, the bench indicated its willingness to intervene by appointing a third party or issuing specific directives if Bharadwaj and Kumar fail to rectify the situation promptly. It emphasized that the court will not hesitate to take drastic measures to uphold the interests of the public, including enforcing jail time if necessary.

The court’s firm stance underscores the imperative of governmental accountability and the paramount importance of prioritizing public welfare above personal agendas. As the legal battle unfolds, the onus remains on Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Health Secretary SB Deepak Kumar to heed the court’s warning and take immediate corrective action to address the pressing concerns raised by the judiciary.
