Advancing Gender Diversity: Infosys and the Journey Towards Equal Representation

In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024, Infosys, a global leader in technology and consulting, stands as a beacon of progress in fostering gender diversity and inclusivity within its workforce. With a current representation of women at 39.3 percent as of Q3 FY24, Infosys has set an ambitious target of achieving 45 percent representation by 2030, reflecting its steadfast commitment to creating a more equitable workplace.

In an exclusive interview with Mint, Aruna C Newton, Vice President and Head of Diversity and Inclusion, ESG Governance & Reporting at Infosys, shed light on the company’s multifaceted approach to attracting and retaining female talent in the traditionally male-dominated tech industry. Newton emphasized the importance of implementing targeted initiatives and programs aimed at addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by women in the workforce.

One such initiative highlighted by Newton is the comprehensive support system provided to female employees throughout their personal and professional journeys. This includes interventions focused on strengthening career intentionality in female students through campus engagements, maternity supports, and a robust return-to-work program. Notably, Infosys offers exclusive infrastructure for returning mothers, such as dedicated workstations, lactation rooms, and interaction spaces, as well as the innovative ‘iMother App,’ designed to empower women during this crucial stage of their journey.

Furthermore, Infosys has developed a range of developmental interventions tailored to advancing careers and fostering opportunities for female employees. These initiatives include leadership coaching programs like ‘#IamTheFuture,’ managerial development programs such as ‘Infosys Orbit Next,’ and collaborative tech communities like ‘TechCohere.’ These programs aim to nurture talent, refine engineering practices, and provide mentorship opportunities for women to thrive in the tech industry.

In addition to these initiatives, Infosys offers flexible work arrangements and part-time options, recognizing the importance of work-life balance and accommodating diverse needs. Employee resource groups also play a pivotal role in building networks of support and inspiration, further enhancing the sense of belonging and community within the organization.

Infosys’ commitment to gender diversity extends beyond mere rhetoric, as evidenced by its concrete actions and investments in creating an inclusive workplace culture where every individual, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. As the company continues to forge ahead on its journey towards equal representation, it serves as a testament to the transformative power of diversity and inclusion in driving innovation and success in the tech industry and beyond.
