Unrest in Himachal Pradesh Congress: High Command Forms Committee Amid Rebel MLAs’ Exodus

The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh is witnessing tumultuous times as a rebellion brews within the state’s Congress unit. In response to the escalating crisis, the party’s high command has intervened by forming a six-member committee aimed at fostering better coordination between the government and the Congress organization in the hill state.

The formation of the committee comes on the heels of a dramatic turn of events where 11 MLAs from Himachal Pradesh, including six from the Congress and three independents, sought refuge in BJP-ruled Uttarakhand. Their decision to camp in Uttarakhand until their disqualification plea is heard by the Supreme Court has sent shockwaves through the political corridors of Himachal Pradesh.

The six-member committee comprises Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Himachal Pradesh Congress President Pratibha Singh, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, Kaul Singh Thakur, Dhaniram Shandil, and Ram Lal Thakur. The committee’s mandate is to enhance coordination between the government and the Congress organization, addressing the growing discord within the party ranks.

Meanwhile, the rebel Congress MLAs encamped in Rishikesh have called upon Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to reflect on the current political crisis and identify those responsible. Expressing disappointment with the Chief Minister’s statements labeling them as “black snakes or shepherds,” the rebel MLAs have raised questions about Sukhu’s leadership and approach towards reconciliation.

The rebellion within the Congress ranks stems from the disqualification of six Congress MLAs for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections, along with the three independent MLAs who sided with the BJP candidate. The defeat of the Congress candidate in the face of a comfortable majority has fueled internal strife and finger-pointing within the party.

In response to the electoral malpractice, the Himachal Pradesh Police have initiated legal action against the fathers of Congress rebel Chetanya Sharma and Independent MLA Ashish Sharma. The case underscores the gravity of the situation and the ramifications of political maneuvering on electoral integrity.

As the political drama unfolds in Himachal Pradesh, the formation of the committee signals a concerted effort by the Congress leadership to address internal dissent and restore stability within the party. However, the road ahead remains fraught with challenges as the party navigates through a period of uncertainty and upheaval.

Stay tuned for further developments as the political landscape evolves, reshaping the contours of power and influence in Himachal Pradesh’s political arena.
