Singer Chinmayi Sripaada Reacts to Horrific Rape Case in Jharkhand

Last week, a horrendous rape case shocked the nation as a Spanish woman was gang-raped in Kurumahat, Jharkhand, while spending the night in a tent with her husband. The incident occurred in the Hansdiha police station area, approximately 300 km from the state capital Ranchi. The victim, aged 28, and her 64-year-old husband had traveled from Bangladesh to Dumka on motorcycles and were en route to Nepal via Bihar.

Renowned singer Chinmayi Sripaada expressed her reaction to the appalling incident on the X platform, stating, “If all Indians can be proud when ‘few’ Indians win an Olympic medal, all Indians can also be ashamed when ‘few’ men rape.”

In response to the incident, Jharkhand Police took swift action, providing a compensation of ₹10 lakhs to the victim’s husband. The husband expressed gratitude to the police for their prompt investigation.

According to police reports, seven individuals are involved in the case, and three have been arrested. Following their arrest, they were remanded in judicial custody after appearing in a local court.

The incident underscores the urgent need for stringent measures to address and prevent such heinous crimes. It highlights the importance of societal condemnation and collective action against sexual violence, emphasizing the shared responsibility of every citizen to uphold the dignity and safety of all individuals.
