“Drishyam,” the acclaimed Indian thriller that captivated audiences with its gripping narrative, is set to transcend cultural boundaries with its upcoming English remake. Produced by India’s Panorama Studios in collaboration with U.S. companies Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films, the English adaptation promises to bring the timeless tale to a new audience.
Originally crafted in the Malayalam language in 2013, “Drishyam” garnered widespread acclaim before being remade in Hindi, featuring renowned actors Ajay Devgn and Tabu in lead roles, in 2015. The success of the Hindi version led to the release of the sequel, “Drishyam 2,” in 2022, further solidifying the franchise’s global appeal with a worldwide gross of $43 million.
Panorama Studios, the driving force behind the Hindi adaptation, has secured the international remake rights to both “Drishyam 1 & 2” from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas. Embarking on an ambitious endeavor, Panorama aims to produce multiple international versions of the riveting thriller, with a Korean remake already in the works and a Spanish adaptation nearing finalization.
Kumar Mangat Pathak, Panorama’s Chairman and Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s global expansion, citing the universal resonance of “Drishyam’s” clever narrative. With plans to produce the film in 10 countries over the next three to five years, “Drishyam” is poised to become a truly international phenomenon.
Gulfstream Pictures, known for its previous work on popular comedies like “Blended” and “Upgraded,” joins the production team to bring “Drishyam” to audiences in the United States. Co-founders Mike Karz and Bill Bindley expressed excitement for the opportunity to introduce the timeless thriller to American viewers, recognizing its universal appeal and enduring popularity.
