Suhani Bhatnagar: A Tragic Loss to the Industry

The sudden demise of Suhani Bhatnagar, known for her role as Junior Babita Phogat in the movie “Dangal,” has left the entire industry in shock. Recently, her parents shed light on the cause of her untimely death.

In a media interaction, Suhani Bhatnagar’s father, Puneet Bhatnagar, disclosed that she had been diagnosed with dermatomyositis, which led to her admission to AIIMS for the last 10 days of her life. The ordeal began when Suhani developed swelling in her hands two months ago, prompting medical attention. Despite being prescribed steroids, the only known treatment for the condition, the medication adversely affected her immune system, resulting in a severe lung infection and fluid accumulation. As a consequence, Suhani struggled to breathe and tragically passed away on Friday.

“Even after putting her on a ventilator, her oxygen level was very low, and then yesterday evening at 7 pm, the AIIMS doctors said ‘she is not more,” her father shared. Reflecting on her aspirations, Suhani’s mother revealed that she had plans to re-enter the industry. “She was performing very well in college, she even topped in the last semester. She was brilliant in everything and wanted to excel in whatever she wanted to do. Our daughter has made us very proud,” her mother added. Suhani’s cremation took place in Faridabad on February 17.

Suhani Bhatnagar garnered praise for her portrayal in Nitesh Tiwari’s “Dangal,” where she essayed the role of junior Babita Phogat. The film achieved immense success, grossing over Rs 3000 crore worldwide at the box office. Alongside Aamir Khan, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra, and Fatima Sana Shaikh, Suhani contributed to the movie’s historic journey.
