Celebrating Six Years of Storytelling: Telugu Plays Take Center Stage at Storyboard Productions

Hyderabad-based Storyboard Productions marks its sixth anniversary on February 17th with a vibrant celebration of Telugu culture and storytelling. In collaboration with Preksha Theatre Company, the renowned theatre group presents two captivating Telugu plays, “Chal Chal Gurram” and “Rependi?”, at the esteemed Lamakaan.

Directed by Storyboard’s co-founder, Sandeep Tadi, and produced by Preksha Trivedi, these two plays promise an evening of laughter, satire, and introspection, seamlessly blending entertainment with thought-provoking narratives.

“Chal Chal Gurram,” inspired by the Telugu rhyme “Chal Chal Gurram, chalaaki gurram…” penned by Tanikella Bharani, offers a humorous yet poignant exploration of the perils of excessive alcohol consumption. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, the play follows the journey of Joga Rao, a middle-class man whose life is gradually consumed by alcohol. Through laughter and wit, the play delicately underscores the destructive impact of addiction on relationships and personal well-being.

“Rependi?” delves into the realm of political satire, using the Telangana slang for “What’s Tomorrow” as its title. Written by Madbhushi Divakar Babu, the play follows the misadventures of an MLA tasked with delivering a speech on a special day at a school. As he grapples with ignorance and embarrassment, the MLA seeks answers with the help of his servant and brother-in-law, the corporator. Through sharp wit and astute observation, “Rependi?” navigates the complexities of political intrigue and human foibles with humor and insight.

For Sandeep and the Storyboard Productions team, staging these plays on their anniversary was a serendipitous occurrence, yet one they embraced wholeheartedly. As they bring these vibrant narratives to life on stage, they invite audiences to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Telugu culture and storytelling.

With seasoned actors and fresh talent alike, “Chal Chal Gurram” and “Rependi?” promise an evening of laughter, reflection, and shared moments of theatrical brilliance. As the curtains rise and the stories unfold, audiences are invited to embark on a journey of discovery and delight, celebrating six years of storytelling excellence with Storyboard Productions.

As we applaud their achievements and embrace the magic of live theatre, let us come together to honor the power of storytelling to inspire, provoke, and unite us all. Here’s to many more years of creativity, innovation, and the timeless art of storytelling at Storyboard Productions.
