Bowie State Bulldogs Drop Season Opener Against Morgan State Bears

In a thrilling season opener at Lois T. Murray Field, the Bowie State Bulldogs faced off against the Morgan State Bears in a non-conference doubleheader. Despite a valiant effort from Coreena Dunham, who went 2-for-3 with a triple, the Bulldogs fell short, ultimately losing 9-1.

The game saw Lindsey George take the mound for the Bulldogs, but unfortunately, she couldn’t secure the win, ending with a tough loss. However, Dunham’s standout performance at the plate provided a glimmer of hope for the team. Alongside her, Sydney Edmond also delivered, contributing with a solid 1-for-2 performance, including an RBI.

Bowie State started strong, notching a run in the opening inning courtesy of Edmond’s RBI single, bringing Dunham home. However, Morgan State quickly turned the tide, scoring nine runs in the subsequent innings to clinch the victory.

Despite the defeat, there were notable highlights for BSU. The first inning showcased their offensive potential, demonstrating their ability to put runs on the board early. Additionally, Bowie State’s pitchers faced tough competition, contending with 27 Morgan State hitters throughout the game.

Dunham’s stellar performance with the bat stood out for the Bulldogs, as she led the team with her impressive triple and overall 2-for-3 performance. On the opposing side, freshman Chandler Mitchell shone for Morgan State, going 2-for-2 with a double and two crucial RBIs, contributing significantly to their victory.

Emily Raubuch led the Bears’ pitching staff, delivering four solid innings, allowing just one run. Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will regroup and prepare for the upcoming HBCU Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., where they will face off against tough competition from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The tournament promises exciting matchups, starting with Albany State and followed by clashes with Kentucky State, Miles, Edward Waters, and Tuskegee.

Despite the tough start to the season, the Bulldogs remain determined and focused on bouncing back stronger in the upcoming tournaments. With resilience and determination, they aim to make their mark in the upcoming games, showcasing their talent and competitive spirit on the field.
