GVQ: Kerala’s Unique Time Café Experience in Kochi’s Outskirts

In the bustling outskirts of Kochi lies a haven where time isn’t just a commodity but an experience to cherish. GVQ, touted as Kerala’s first time café, nestled in Kalamassery, defies the conventional notion of pricing one’s time. Here, every minute holds value, priced at a mere Rs 1, inviting patrons to indulge in moments of tranquility and choice.

Behind this innovative venture are Mural artist Aathira Mohan, a native of Kalamassery, and her friend Allen K Kurien from Kottayam. Their brainchild, GVQ, cleverly plays on the Malayalam word ‘jeevikkoo,’ meaning ‘live.’ Supported by investors Sujith T V and Soman M M, the café opened its doors three months ago, offering a refreshing departure from the ordinary.

At GVQ, time is not just spent; it’s savored. For Rs 150 per person, patrons can relish an hour of bliss, accompanied by unlimited beverages and cookies crafted by GVQ. A delectable delight awaits in the form of GVQ butter crepes, a signature taste curated exclusively for the café. Beyond the first hour, every minute spent warrants a nominal charge of Rs 1, fostering an environment where patrons can unwind at their own pace.

The allure of GVQ extends beyond its unique pricing model. Embracing its roots, the café exudes a rustic charm intertwined with contemporary elegance. Aathira Mohan’s vision of a café with a difference is palpable in every corner, with the old house renovated to showcase modern décor while preserving the natural beauty of the surroundings. Amidst lush greenery, patrons can escape the city’s hustle and bustle, finding solace in the serenity of GVQ.

Aathira’s journey from a media production company in Bengaluru to the helm of GVQ reflects her unwavering commitment to her roots. With a desire to offer something distinct to her hometown, Aathira’s perseverance culminated in the inception of GVQ. Drawing inspiration from her experiences, she meticulously curated a space where patrons can unwind, connect, and create memories.

Central to GVQ’s ethos is the emphasis on choice and freedom. Patrons can savor delicacies from the café’s menu or indulge in offerings from other restaurants. The café welcomes outside food, ensuring that patrons feel at home while enjoying their time at GVQ. Moreover, the inclusion of a vegetable farm on the premises further underscores GVQ’s commitment to sustainability and locally sourced ingredients.

As GVQ continues to carve its niche in Kerala’s culinary landscape, it serves as a testament to the power of innovation and passion. With its unique approach to pricing time and unwavering dedication to creating memorable experiences, GVQ beckons patrons to immerse themselves in moments of bliss, one minute at a time.
