Prime Minister Modi’s Rally in Jammu: A Turning Point for J&K

All eyes are on the upcoming public rally in Jammu where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation on February 20. This event marks a significant juncture for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), with the Prime Minister slated to inaugurate projects worth ₹30,500 crore and kick off the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

Among the key highlights of the rally, Mr. Modi will inaugurate the 48-km rail line between Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan, expanding the railway network in J&K. Additionally, the electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section will further integrate the Kashmir valley with the rest of north India. Notably, the Khari-Sumber section houses the country’s longest transportation tunnel spanning 12.77 km.

The Prime Minister is also expected to announce numerous projects across various sectors including health, education, transportation, and infrastructure. Moreover, about 1,500 new government recruits will receive appointment orders during the event.

Given the proximity to the Lok Sabha elections, the visit holds immense significance. BJP leader Devender Singh Rana expressed optimism that Mr. Modi’s visit would propel J&K towards peace, progress, and prosperity, building upon the landmark decisions of the past four years.

However, expectations are diverse. Hakeem Yaseen, chairman of the Kashmir-based Peoples Democratic Front, urges the Prime Minister to address unemployment by offering comprehensive employment packages and regularisation policies for daily wage workers. He emphasizes the need to bridge the gap between Delhi and the hearts of the people of J&K.

Abdul Gani Vakil of the J&K Peoples Conference stresses the importance of confidence-building measures and calls for the restoration of Statehood, along with special employment packages for youth, to foster greater electoral participation.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) highlights the pressing issues of unemployment and electricity shortages. Despite the growth in tourism, the industrial sector faces challenges that require urgent attention.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi’s rally signifies a crucial moment for J&K, promising new opportunities and addressing long-standing concerns. The hopes and expectations of the people reflect a collective desire for progress, prosperity, and inclusivity in the region.
