Enforcement Directorate to Investigate Atishi’s Claims Regarding Directions from Arvind Kejriwal

In a recent development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken cognizance of Delhi Minister Atishi’s statement alleging that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued directions to her from the agency’s custody to initiate public welfare works related to water and sewerage. This revelation has prompted the federal agency to conduct an investigation to ascertain the legitimacy of these actions in accordance with the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court’s orders issued to the ED and Mr. Kejriwal during his custody period.

While Mr. Kejriwal remains in ED custody until March 28, the court has granted permissions for his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, to meet him daily for half an hour between 6 and 7 p.m., along with his lawyers for an additional half-hour.

Water Minister Atishi disclosed during a press conference that Mr. Kejriwal had sent her directives from ED custody, instructing her to address public issues concerning water and sewerage. These directives included deploying an adequate number of water tankers in areas facing water shortages ahead of the summer months, as well as issuing instructions to the Chief Secretary and other officers to this effect.

Mr. Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED on March 21, following raids at his official residence in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case, has raised questions about the legality and propriety of his communications from custody. The ED will investigate whether due processes were followed during these meetings and promptly inform the designated special court of any irregularities found.

It is essential to note that the meeting area at the ED headquarters, where the arrestee interacts with his lawyers and family members, is closely monitored via CCTV video link, ensuring transparency and accountability in the proceedings.

As the investigation unfolds, stakeholders await further developments to ascertain the veracity of Atishi’s claims and ensure adherence to legal protocols in the handling of Mr. Kejriwal’s custody arrangements.
