Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu’s Anti-India Stance: No Indian Military Personnel Allowed After May 10

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has intensified his anti-India stance by declaring that no Indian military personnel, regardless of attire, will be permitted in the country after May 10, as reported by media sources on Tuesday. This announcement comes in the wake of escalating tensions between the two nations, exacerbated by recent developments surrounding the presence of Indian troops in the Maldives.

According to PTI reports, Muizzu’s declaration follows the arrival of an Indian civilian team in the Maldives to assume control of one of the three aviation platforms in the island nation. This action, occurring ahead of the agreed-upon March 10 deadline for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel, has heightened diplomatic tensions between India and the Maldives.

During his tour across the Baa atoll Eydhafushi residential community, President Muizzu addressed concerns regarding the presence of Indian troops in the country. He emphasized his government’s success in expelling Indian troops and dismissed rumors suggesting their return in civilian attire. Muizzu, often regarded as a pro-China leader, cautioned against misinformation and urged citizens not to succumb to doubts and falsehoods.

Muizzu unequivocally stated that there will be no Indian troops in the Maldives after May 10, reiterating his firm stance on the matter. His declaration coincided with the signing of an agreement between the Maldives and China, wherein the Maldives is set to receive free military aid from China.

The escalating tensions between the Maldives and India underscore the complexities of geopolitical dynamics in the Indian Ocean region. As diplomatic relations strain, the implications of Muizzu’s anti-India stance and the growing influence of China in the Maldives pose significant challenges for regional stability and bilateral relations.

As the situation unfolds, the international community closely monitors developments in the Maldives, mindful of the broader implications for regional security and strategic interests. The evolving dynamics highlight the need for diplomatic dialogue and peaceful resolution to address underlying tensions and safeguard regional stability in the Indian Ocean.
