Arundeep Thind, a 39-year-old Indian-origin man residing in Canada, finds himself entangled in a legal battle after being charged with extortion threats targeting South Asian businesses. However, Thind vehemently denies the accusations, asserting his innocence and claiming that the police have unjustly portrayed him as a high-level gangster.

Thind’s arrest, along with four others of Punjab origin, was announced by Peel Regional Police’s extortion taskforce on February 8. The charges against them include extortion, possession of firearms, and fraud, casting a shadow of suspicion over their reputations and livelihoods.

Despite being out on bail after spending two weeks in jail, Thind continues to maintain his innocence, emphasizing that he is not a “criminal.” In an emotional interview with CTV News, Thind expressed the distress caused to his family, particularly his children, by the media and police portrayal of him as a criminal.

He recounts an incident where he was coerced into contacting the extortionists on behalf of a friend who owned a restaurant in Brampton.
